venturing into a new spirit of the times that
judges things from all angles, seeing both the
details and the overall picture. We can think
about this in terms of possible directions.
We can think about a pluriverse that will be
increasingly inhabited, because we are not
looking at a passing fashion that characterizes
this “age of uncertainty,” as Zygmunt Bauman
calls it; we are looking into the essence of
biodiversity. The women and men of coworking
situations continue to grow in number, continue
to change because in their universe and those
that are appearing, or with which they come
into contact, they know that there is something
new, always: even consolidated relationships
are not the same as in the past. They continue
to watch, because they are not inside something
with a window that looks outward, but inside
the space that surrounds them.
And there are no limits, no borders, because the
constitutional charter of coworking springs from
the faith that fills the gestures of those who sow
the seeds, leading to ever more fertile harvest.
Coworking is …
I have traveled in the coworking pluriverse.
What have I taken away with me? What
engaged me? What have I understood?
Essentially three things.
Coworking is a revolution of the mind.
The
place is not just a space, it is a mental state. So
concepts take a step back, letting people and
places do the talking, and this favors innovation.
There is no innovation without invention.
This is possible in a coworking facility because:
you can see the forest just as well as the trees:
this is the leverage effect of coworking!
in a coworking situation ideas do not exist: but
visionaries do!
It is in this mixture, in this convergence of
ideals and values, that the true innovation is
rooted. A community is constructed, but not a
closed one. A circulating community, where the
idea is to surf, where you can see everything,
immediately, in a space that almost magically
ends and remains with every moment. If behind
every desk there is not a member of the
community, it is not a coworking project.
Coworking is anarchic organization.
This
means that coworking – the universe of
inventive endeavor – interprets creativity,
knowing that it does not mean improvisation
without method: that would only create
confusion, and give young people the illusion of
being free, independent, creative. In a
coworking project, on the other hand, the goal
is to get them involved in a reality made of
objective values that become operative tools in
the hands of creative designers.

Thanks to these
characteristics it represents fertile ground,
inhabited by talents who also operate with the
modes and forms of expertise of crafts. In a
coworking facility this is possible because at its
center – as Richard Sennet has suggested –
there is the person, their abilities, the
connections of mind, hand, desire, reason. The
basis of creativity. A creative mind is:
always at work;
always asking questions;
always discovering problems where other people
see satisfying responses;
always at ease in the fluid situations where
other people sense only danger;
always capable of autonomous, independent
judgment, rejecting what has been codified,
manipulating objects and concepts without the
inhibitions of conformism.
Coworkers are always hungry for all this.
They work to reveal the roots of the future that
is already here. For themselves and others, they
draw the maps of the inner voyage, the real,
complete ones.
As Oscar Wilde has taught us: “A map of the
world that does not include Utopia is not worth
even glancing at, for it leaves out the one
country at which Humanity is always landing.”
In short, coworker make coworking into a place
that exists, a concrete expression of the utopia
for the preparation of the future.
