IN COPERTINA - COVER
The concept of the office 2.0 dates back to
2010, and was developed to identify the
enormous change taking place in ways of
working in the office, altering its architectural
design and the very meaning of the
workplace. Telework becomes Smart
Working, practiced by the Smart Worker, a
figure always connected to company data,
outside or inside the boundaries of the office.
Workspaces change their look, becoming
open-plan areas, often without assigned
desks, surrounded by more private spaces
for meetings with clients or work requiring
concentration.
But the changes in this sector travel at the
speed of data on fiber optics, so in just a few
years we are already at the office 4.0, a
space that embraces the digital revolution we
are going through and morphs into an infinite
number of solutions and interfaces.
It is hard to clearly imagine the future
scenarios of the workplace; we might be
about to see a trend inversion towards more
personal and private spaces, or towards
flexible facilities subject to very quick
transformations. What is clear is that
products will no longer be the central focus:
the true capital will be
data connectivity
and
psychophysical wellbeing
.
What impact will the evolution in progress
have on office lighting methods?
“The turning point in lighting design for the
workplace came with the EN 12464-1
standard, which in 2011 introduced new
criteria of evaluation aimed at improving
visual comfort and psychophysical wellness
in the workplace – says Dario Bettiol,
marketing director of Zumtobel Group Italia. –
For the first time, the accent was put on also
designing with natural light, lighting vertical
planes, evaluating cylindrical lighting and
Lighting the office 4.0
Flexibility, personalization and wellness are the three key factors of the lighting philosophy of

, to respond to changes in the organization of the workplace
brightness levels of background areas. The
keys of the new lighting technologies thus
become personalization and connection.”
Interpreting the changes in progress, in 2012
Zumtobel presented the
Swarm Control
technology
that can be inserted in floor
lamps, demonstrating that light can follow the
individual in space all the way to the
workstation, while in 2014, at the end of the
2.0 era, the company developed a Sequence
office fixture that grants users the possibility
of personalizing light through a simple,
intuitive system accessed from any terminal
connected to the web, including smartphones
and tablets.
But what is really the right light for the office?
Zumtobel has decided to explore this theme
directly with end users, first with a study
conducted together with the Fraunhofer
Institute, then by turning to the neurosciences
and to collaboration with Gruppe
Con controllo della luminanza
e fonoassorbimento in
un apparecchio decorativo
Coniugare l’appeal di un apparecchio decorativo con le per-
formance di un prodotto tecnico, questa la sfida colta da Zum-
tobel con il
sistema Ondaria
che – incassato, montato a pla-
fone o sospeso –arricchisce l’architettura senza prevaricare.
La purezza della sua geometria lo rende perfetto in sale d’at-
tesa, in reception e zone di break-out.
sione
Ondaria LRO
con ottica microprismatica per un ot-
timale controllo delle luminanze (3000 cd/m²), persino dove
si lavora con monitor molto inclinati. Mentre la versione
On-
daria Acoustic
è studiata per open space o architetture
dal carattere industriale dove è necessario intervenire per
la correzione acustica degli ambienti. Il rivestimento
tessile a doppio strato, oltre a generare un’emissione di
luce omogenea, sortisce anche uno straordinario
effetto
fonoassorbente
, riducendo il riverbero e migliorando la com-
prensione del parlato.
